The Return of the Megacrab
Project type
Illustration / Animation
Date
2018
Location
London
Role
Art Director / Illustrator
I was the Art Director on this project. I was responsible for the propaganda style idea and styleframes. I created the storyboard and all the 2D art for this stop motion animation.
We threw away 7 different concepts. Then we fished one out of the bin and realised screwed up paper was the thing. We layered up two different sketches and started ripping the pages to reveal the image underneath. That became the idea. We animated the story in 3D, painted over the models to give it a war propaganda look. We printed out each frame. In the studio, we shot all 360 frames individually under a rostrum camera; ripping, folding and burning the pages in situ. Then we stitched it together digitally to create the final animation.
